Take Profit Trader: the test account rules, and what the 50% rule does to your target
Take Profit Trader runs a one-step test account on a monthly subscription. The drawdown trails your end-of-day balance and stops at your starting balance, you need at least three trading days, and your best day must be under 50% of your total profit or your target grows. Passing leads to a PRO account with a one-time fee.
The test account
| Size | Profit target | Max loss | Daily loss limit | Max contracts | Activation | Best-day rule | Room |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 25K | $1,500 | $1,500 | none | 3 minis / 30 micros | $130 | 50% | 100% |
| 50K | $3,000 | $2,000 | none | 6 minis / 60 micros | $130 | 50% | 67% |
| 75K | $4,500 | $2,500 | none | 9 minis / 90 micros | $130 | 50% | 56% |
| 100K | $6,000 | $3,000 | none | 12 minis / 120 micros | $130 | 50% | 50% |
| 150K | $9,000 | $4,500 | none | 15 minis / 150 micros | $130 | 50% | 50% |
Take Profit Trader is one of the few firms with a 75K size. On the 25K the drawdown is as big as the target: $1,500 each, which is unusual room for a small account.
How the drawdown moves
The drawdown is calculated only at the end of the day. The minimum account balance starts at your starting balance minus the drawdown and follows your highest closing balance up until it reaches your starting balance, then stays put. If your balance touches the minimum at any time, through closed or open losses, the account is liquidated on the spot.
On the 25K: start with a $23,500 floor, close day one at $26,000 and the floor moves to $24,500. Once it reaches $25,000, it's fixed.
The 50% rule raises your target
Two consistency requirements apply. You need at least three trading days, and your best day must be under 50% of your total net profit. Go over and you don't fail, but your goal becomes more than twice your best day.
Take Profit Trader's own example: a 50K test with days of $2,000, $600 and $500 is $3,100 of profit, above the $3,000 target. But $2,000 is 65% of $3,100, so the real target is now anything above $4,000.
Practical takeaway: on the 50K, keep your best day under $1,500 and the $3,000 target stays the target.
After you pass
You move to a PRO account, which is simulated. Take Profit Trader charges a one-time $130 PRO fee (they also run codes that waive it). PRO profits above the buffer can be withdrawn from day one at an 80/20 split. PRO+ is a live account with an end-of-day drawdown and a 90/10 split.
Practice the rule set first
FundedSim doesn't simulate Take Profit Trader's exact rules yet. Its drawdown works like Topstep's Maximum Loss Limit: end-of-day trailing, locking at the starting balance. The Topstep 50K in the simulator is a close practice partner, and you can track the 50% best-day rule yourself.
Blow it here, not on a paid eval
Run the same rules on your own trades in the simulator. Free, no card, and a blown account costs you nothing but pride.
