How many contracts can you trade at a prop firm?

On a 50K futures evaluation most firms let you trade 4 to 6 minis or 40 to 60 micros. Alpha Futures allows 3, Apex and Take Profit Trader 6. The cap grows with the account: on a 150K it runs from 9 to 15 minis. At every firm we track, the micro limit is ten times the mini limit.

"–" means the firm doesn't sell that size in the plans we track. These are evaluation limits. Some firms start funded accounts lower and raise the limit as you build profit, so check the funded rules before you plan on full size there.

The cap is not a position size

The limit tells you what the firm will let you click. It says nothing about what your drawdown can survive.

Take an Apex 50K with 6 minis allowed and $2,000 of drawdown. Six ES contracts move $300 per point, so less than 7 points against you ends the eval. Six NQ minis move $120 per point: about 17 points. Most traders who pass a 50K trade a fraction of the cap.

A quick way to size: decide how many losing trades in a row you want to survive, divide the drawdown by that number, and that's your risk per trade. Then work out contracts from your stop. The position size calculator does the math.

Why micros matter more than the mini limit

Micros give you the same market at a tenth of the risk per point. On a 25K, where most firms allow 1 to 4 minis and $1,000 of drawdown, micros are usually the only way to give a normal stop some room. See the micro vs mini guide for point values.

Where the limits are lowest and highest

  • 25K: 1 mini at Alpha Futures and Tradeify, up to 4 at Apex.
  • 50K: 3 at Alpha Futures, 6 at Apex and Take Profit Trader.
  • 100K: 6 at Alpha Futures and Lucid, 12 at Take Profit Trader.
  • 150K: 9 on MyFundedFutures Builder, 15 at Topstep and Take Profit Trader.

Bulenox doesn't publish a limit we could verify, so its row says so.

Questions people actually ask

How many contracts can I trade on a 50K prop firm account?

Between 3 and 6 minis in the evaluations we track, or ten times that in micros. Apex and Take Profit Trader allow 6, Topstep and MyFundedFutures Rapid 5, Lucid, Tradeify and MyFundedFutures Builder 4, Alpha Futures Zero 3.

Do micros count as a tenth of a mini?

In every evaluation in the table, yes: the micro limit is exactly ten times the mini limit, so 10 MES use the same allowance as 1 ES.

Should I trade the maximum?

Almost never. The cap is what the firm allows, not what the drawdown can take. Size from the drawdown and your stop, then check you're under the cap.
